You want your Google reviews on your website, and you want them to count for Google search and for AI tools like ChatGPT and Perplexity too. Most review widgets load your reviews with JavaScript after the page has loaded. Revys writes them straight into your HTML.
Why does it matter where the widget renders?
Because crawlers only see what's in the HTML. A typical widget loads reviews in the visitor's browser, often inside an iframe hosted by the vendor, so the reviews never become part of your page.
Vercel looked at AI crawler traffic on its network and found that none of the major AI crawlers (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and others) rendered JavaScript (December 2024). To them, a JavaScript widget is empty. The Revys fragment carries your reviews, its own scoped CSS and its JSON-LD, with no script at all.
Which layouts can you choose?
Five, all included in the free plan:
| Layout | Best for |
|---|---|
| Grid | A testimonials page or a homepage section |
| List | A narrow column or a service page |
| Carousel | A compact strip that scrolls sideways |
| Wall | Lots of reviews, testimonial-wall style |
| Badge | Your rating and review count in a footer, sidebar or booking page |
For each widget you can set a light or dark theme, colors, corner radius, number of columns, date format, the business name shown, how many reviews to display and a minimum rating. You can also hide a specific review from the widget without touching it on Google.
How do you install it?
Four ways, depending on your stack. Here's what each one means for AI visibility.
| Install method | Works on | Readable by AI | Updates |
|---|---|---|---|
| WordPress plugin (block or shortcode) | WordPress | Yes | Automatic, nightly |
Server include (/api/embed/<id>/html) | PHP, Next.js, Astro, Node.js, Python, Ruby, Cloudflare Workers | Yes | Automatic (1-hour cache) |
JSON API (GET /api/v1/reviews, Pro plan) | Custom builds, agencies | Yes, if rendered server-side | Automatic |
| JavaScript snippet (iframe) | Anywhere, including Wix | No | Automatic |
On Squarespace, Webflow and Shopify there's one more option: paste the widget's HTML into a code block. AI crawlers can read it, but you need to re-paste it when new reviews arrive.
Step-by-step guides: WordPress, Next.js, PHP and plain HTML. To see how this compares with the other ways to show reviews, read how to embed Google reviews on your website.
Where do the reviews come from, and how often do they update?
From the official Google Business Profile API, once you grant access with your Google account (OAuth). No scraping.
That API covers every review on your profile. Many free widgets use the Google Maps Places API instead, which returns at most five reviews per place, which is why they keep showing the same five.
Every night, Revys picks up new, edited and deleted reviews and updates your widget. With the WordPress plugin, Revys pushes the reviews to your site, so your page doesn't depend on any outside service when it loads.
What structured data does it add?
A LocalBusiness JSON-LD built from your Business Profile (name, address, opening hours when available), or a minimal Organization. If your site already has its own markup, you can turn it off.
It never adds AggregateRating or Review markup for your own reviews. Google calls that self-serving when the business controls the reviews shown about itself, and it doesn't earn stars. Non-compliant markup can, however, lead to a manual action.
How much does it cost?
Free is free forever for one Google Business Profile: unlimited widgets and views, all five layouts, reviews in your HTML with schema.org, nightly updates, plus a review link and QR code. The only trade-off is the "Free widget by Revys" credit under the widget.
Pro is $7.90 a month or $79 a year for your first profile (before tax), with volume pricing for additional locations. It removes the Revys credit and adds the JSON API and AI replies to your Google reviews. Every account starts with a 14-day Pro trial, no card required; after that you drop back to Free and your widget stays online.
How do you check that your reviews are readable?
Open your page source (Ctrl+U, or Cmd+Option+U on a Mac) and search for a sentence from one of your reviews. If it's there, you're set. Or run your page through our free AI review visibility checker.
FAQ
Is there a free Google reviews widget?
Yes. The Revys Free plan covers one Google Business Profile with no credit card and no time limit: unlimited widgets and views, all five layouts, reviews in your HTML and nightly updates. The only catch is a small "Free widget by Revys" credit under the widget, removed on Pro.
How do I embed Google reviews on my website with Revys?
Sign up, connect your Google Business Profile, pick a layout, then install it with the WordPress plugin, one server-side line (PHP, Next.js and more) or the JavaScript snippet. The dashboard gives you the exact code to paste.
Is the dashboard available in English?
The widget, yes: set "Widget language" to English and its labels (review count, "Write a review" button, dates, owner replies) show in English. The dashboard is available in English too. Your reviews always appear in the language they were written in.
Will the widget give me star ratings in Google search?
No. Google doesn't show stars for reviews a business displays about itself on its own site. The widget adds compliant LocalBusiness or Organization markup with no self-serving rating. Your Google stars come from your Business Profile, in Maps and the local pack.
Does it work on Wix, Shopify or Squarespace?
Yes. On Squarespace, Webflow and Shopify you can paste the widget's HTML (readable by AI, re-paste it when new reviews come in) or use the JavaScript snippet. On Wix only the JavaScript snippet works: it displays fine, but AI crawlers can't read it.
Can it show Facebook, Yelp or Trustpilot reviews?
Not today. Revys supports Google reviews through the official Google Business Profile API. Facebook and Trustpilot are planned but not available yet.
