How to add Google reviews to Elementor (server-rendered, readable by AI)

Show Google reviews in Elementor with the Revys plugin and the Shortcode widget: server-rendered HTML, synced nightly, no Pro needed. Plus the caching gotchas.

Updated

Your WordPress site is built with Elementor and you want your Google reviews on it: live, styled to match, and not a heavy script that slows the page. Since Elementor runs on WordPress, you don't need an Elementor add-on for this. The Revys WordPress plugin does the rendering, and Elementor's own Shortcode widget places it.

What's the best way to show Google reviews in Elementor?

The Revys plugin with Elementor's Shortcode widget. It's the only option that puts the review text in your page's HTML and keeps it current without you touching anything.

Here's how the plugin works. Revys fetches your reviews through the official Google Business Profile API, then pushes them to your WordPress site every night, already rendered. The plugin stores them in your database, and the shortcode prints them server-side with zero JavaScript for visitors. That matters because AI crawlers read raw HTML: Vercel's analysis of crawler traffic (December 2024) found none of the major ones, GPTBot and ClaudeBot included, executed JavaScript.

How do you set it up?

Plan on ten minutes. The plugin install itself is covered in detail in the WordPress plugin guide; here's the full path for Elementor.

  1. Set up your widget in Revys

Connect your Google Business Profile, then open My businesses › your business › On my website: your widget is already there (a carousel). Use Change style to pick another layout if you like (grid, list, wall or badge), light or dark, in your brand colors. Set Widget language to English in the Content tab so labels and dates read in English. Design happens here, not in Elementor.

  2. Install and connect the plugin

Click Put on my website: Revys recognizes WordPress. Check your site's exact address, click Generate the secret and download the ZIP. In WordPress: Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin, install, activate, then paste the one-time connection secret in the Revys menu. Status switches to "Connected" after the first sync.

  3. Drop in a Shortcode widget

Edit the page with Elementor, search the widget panel for Shortcode, and drag it into a container or column.

  4. Paste the shortcode

In the Content tab, under Shortcode, paste the code Revys shows you, with your real widget ID:

    [revys_reviews widget="YOUR_WIDGET_ID"]

Elementor's docs say this widget renders the shortcode right in the editor, so you should see your reviews immediately.

  5. Leave caching off for this widget

Open the widget's Advanced tab and find Cache Settings. Leave it on Inactive or the default. Don't set it to Active (more on why below).

  6. Publish and check the source

Update the page, open it outside the editor, choose View Page Source (Ctrl+U, or Cmd+Option+U on a Mac) and search for a sentence from one of your reviews. It should be there.

Why can Element Caching freeze your reviews?

Because it stores a widget's HTML instead of rebuilding it. Elementor's help center explains that when widgets are rendered on the server, "the HTML output is stored in the database" and served from there on later visits. Great for a static heading; not great for reviews that change overnight.

What Elementor says about it (checked October 19, 2026):

  • Element Caching "cannot be used on elements that contain dynamic tags or any other type of dynamic information, such as shortcodes."
  • It's an experimental feature and inactive by default on widgets.
  • Some layout elements (Container, Section, Column and others) are cached automatically, and that can't be changed.
  • Expiration is set site-wide in Elementor's settings, Performance tab ("Element Cache Expiration"), where you can also disable element caching entirely.

In practice:

  • Never set the Revys Shortcode widget's Cache Settings to Active.
  • If new reviews still lag, set the element cache expiration to a day or less, or disable element caching.
  • Clear your page cache plugin too (WP Rocket, LiteSpeed Cache, your host's cache): the Revys plugin doesn't purge it.
  • After a big new review, click “Sync now” on the “On my website” page in Revys, then purge that page's cache.

Caching never hides your reviews from crawlers, by the way. A cached page carries the same HTML. It only delays new reviews.

Where should the reviews go: page, template or global widget?

The same shortcode works anywhere Elementor runs shortcodes.

GoalWhere to put the shortcodeTip
One page (home, contact, a service page)Shortcode widget on that pageThe simplest setup
Every page (footer, sidebar)Shortcode widget in a Theme Builder template (Pro)Double-check the template's display conditions
The same block on a handful of pagesA saved template or global widget, reusedOne place to edit if you ever swap widget IDs
Inside tabs or an accordionShortcode widget inside the tabThe text stays in the page HTML even when collapsed

One caution: you can show the same widget on many pages, but avoid showing it twice on one page (header and footer, say), which would duplicate the business markup.

Using Divi or another builder too?

Any WordPress builder that runs shortcodes works the same way: the plugin renders, the builder places. Divi has its own quirks (the Code module, static CSS, global modules), covered in Google reviews on Divi. To compare every method, read how to embed Google reviews on your website, and test any live page with our AI review visibility checker. Layouts are shown on the Google reviews widget page; Pro starts at $7.90/month for your first listing (pricing).

FAQ

How do I add Google reviews to an Elementor page?

Install and connect the Revys WordPress plugin, then add Elementor's Shortcode widget and paste [revys_reviews widget="YOUR_ID"] from your Revys dashboard. The widget uses the layout you picked in Revys: grid, list, carousel, wall or badge.

Do I need Elementor Pro to show Google reviews?

No. The Shortcode widget is part of free Elementor. Pro only matters if you want the reviews in a Theme Builder template, like a site-wide footer.

Can Elementor Pro's Reviews widget pull in my Google reviews?

No. Elementor Pro's Reviews widget is a carousel where you type in each review by hand: name, rating, text. It doesn't connect to your Google Business Profile, so it never updates on its own.

Why doesn't my reviews widget show in the Elementor editor?

Usually because Revys hasn't sent anything for that widget ID yet, so the shortcode prints nothing. Check the ID (“Embed code” on the widget's card, “On my website” page in Revys), then click “Sync now” on that same page. Elementor also notes that some shortcodes don't display in the editor, so always check the live page.

Why are old reviews still showing on my Elementor page?

A page cache plugin, or Elementor's Element Caching switched on for that widget. Keep the Shortcode widget's cache setting on Inactive, shorten the element cache expiration, and clear your page cache.

Can I paste a reviews script into Elementor's HTML widget instead?

You can, but the script loads reviews in the visitor's browser inside an iframe, so AI crawlers can't read them. On an Elementor site, the plugin plus the Shortcode widget gets you server-rendered reviews for the same effort.

Will Google reviews on my Elementor site give me stars in search results?

No. Google doesn't show stars for reviews a business displays about itself on its own site. The Revys plugin only outputs Organization or LocalBusiness markup, never AggregateRating.
