How to add Google reviews to a GoDaddy website (Websites + Marketing)

Add Google reviews to GoDaddy's website builder with an HTML section. GoDaddy places that code in an iframe, so AI crawlers can't read it. Here's what works.

Updated

You built your site with GoDaddy and want your Google reviews on the homepage, where new customers decide whether to call you. GoDaddy makes this easy to do and hard to do well: its HTML section accepts any widget, but the way it embeds that code decides what search engines and AI tools can see.

First: which GoDaddy site do you have?

GoDaddy sells two different things people call "a GoDaddy website":

  • Websites + Marketing, GoDaddy's drag-and-drop website builder. You edit it from your GoDaddy product page (Websites + Marketing, then Manage). This page is mostly about it.
  • WordPress hosted at GoDaddy (Managed WordPress or a hosting plan with WordPress). You edit it in a /wp-admin dashboard with a Plugins menu.

If you're on WordPress, skip ahead: install the Revys WordPress plugin. It's the better option by far, and GoDaddy's hosting doesn't change anything about it.

What does GoDaddy's website builder allow?

One relevant tool: the HTML section. GoDaddy's help center (checked October 19, 2026) describes it as the way to add your own HTML, CSS and JavaScript to a page. The details that matter for a review widget:

  • The code goes in an iframe. GoDaddy's troubleshooting guide says it plainly: "the embed is placed inside of an iframe," so "the widget may not be responsive — even if the original content is."
  • Height is up to you. Leave Forced Height blank for automatic height, or enter a pixel value. GoDaddy recommends forcing a height for content that changes size as people interact with it, like a carousel. A height of 0 removes the section.
  • HTTPS only. GoDaddy doesn't guarantee HTTP support in embeds.
  • No third-party support. GoDaddy explains how the HTML section works but won't troubleshoot code from other vendors. For widget issues, contact the widget's support (that's us, for Revys).

Which Revys method works on GoDaddy?

MethodWorks on Websites + MarketingReviews in your page's HTMLReadable by AI crawlersAuto-updates
Revys script in an HTML sectionYesNo (iframe)NoYes, nightly
Revys static HTML in an HTML sectionYesNo (same iframe)NoNo
A few reviews typed into a text sectionYesYesYesNo
Revys WordPress pluginWordPress at GoDaddy onlyYesYesYes, nightly

Why AI crawlers miss iframe content: Vercel's analysis of crawler traffic on its network (December 2024) found that none of the major AI crawlers, GPTBot, ClaudeBot and PerplexityBot included, executed JavaScript. They read the HTML your page is served with. In an HTML section, your review text lives in a separate frame the browser loads afterwards. Google does render JavaScript, but it credits iframe content to the iframe's source, not to your site.

How do you add Google reviews to GoDaddy, step by step?

Plan on five minutes.

  1. Connect your Google Business Profile to Revys

Sign up, then connect your profile with Google's official sign-in (no password sharing, no scraping). Revys fetches your reviews and refreshes them every night.

  2. Set up the widget and copy the script

In the dashboard, open My businesses › your business › On my website: your widget is already there (a carousel), and Change style also offers grid, list, wall or badge. Set Widget language to English in the Content tab. Then click Put on my website, enter your site address and, if Revys hasn't already picked it, choose Other or custom under “Not right?” (there's no GoDaddy-specific method). In “Choose how to add your reviews”, copy 3. JavaScript line to paste: it works anywhere, but AI crawlers can't read it. Copy it:

    <script src="https://revys.io/api/embed/YOUR_ID" async></script>
  3. Open your site in the GoDaddy editor

Go to your GoDaddy product page, scroll down, expand Websites + Marketing and select Manage next to your site. Open the editor and go to the page where the reviews belong.

  4. Add an HTML section

Add a section where you want the reviews, search for HTML, and select Add on the HTML section.

  5. Paste the script and set the height

Paste the line into the Custom Code field. Add a section title if you like ("What our customers say"). For Forced Height, start blank (automatic); if the widget gets cut off, enter a pixel height that fits your longest review.

  6. Preview, then publish

Changes save automatically. Use Preview to check desktop and mobile, then publish your site. GoDaddy recommends Chrome for the editor's HTML preview.

How do you keep the widget from looking broken?

Because the code sits in an iframe, the layout has to fit a box GoDaddy sizes. These settings avoid most problems:

  • Cap the number of reviews (the widget's “Max number of reviews” setting) so the height stays predictable.
  • On a carousel, force a height that fits the longest review, as GoDaddy suggests for content that changes size.
  • On narrow columns or mobile-heavy pages, use the list or badge layout.
  • If nothing shows at all, give the section some height: GoDaddy's guide suggests trying a higher value, such as 40 pixels, when a widget doesn't appear.
  • Check the live site on a real phone, not just the editor preview.

Can you make reviews readable by AI on GoDaddy?

Only by putting real text on the page. A regular text section in Websites + Marketing is part of your page's HTML, so a few reviews typed there are readable by Google and AI crawlers. The trade-off: nothing updates, and it's on you to quote reviews faithfully.

A setup that works well:

  1. Near the top of your homepage, a text section with two or three recent, varied reviews, quoted word for word, with the reviewer's first name, the date, and "Google review."
  2. Lower down, the Revys widget (script) with your current rating and latest reviews.
  3. A button to your Google review link so happy customers can add theirs. Revys generates the link and a QR code; our free Google review link generator does it too.

To see what a crawler gets from any page, open it, choose View Page Source (Ctrl+U), and search for a sentence from a review. Or run the page through our AI review visibility checker.

Should you move off GoDaddy's builder for AI visibility?

Not for reviews alone. What ChatGPT or Google's AI Overviews say about a local business depends first on its Google Business Profile, on other sites that mention it, and on the text of its own pages. If you rebuild your site someday, a platform that runs server code or WordPress with the Revys plugin puts reviews in your HTML and keeps them current. Until then, the widget still does its main job: convincing the visitors already on your page.

Pro, which removes the "Free widget by Revys" credit and adds AI review replies, starts at $7.90/month for your first listing (pricing).

FAQ

How do I add a Google reviews widget to my GoDaddy website?

In the Websites + Marketing editor, go to the page, add a section, search for HTML and add the HTML section. Paste the widget's script into the Custom Code field, adjust the height, preview, and publish the site.

Does GoDaddy's website builder show Google reviews natively?

No built-in section pulls reviews from your Google Business Profile onto your site. You can type a few reviews into a regular text section, or add a review widget through an HTML section.

Why is my reviews widget cut off or not responsive on GoDaddy?

GoDaddy places HTML section code inside an iframe, and says the widget may not be responsive even if the original content is. Leave Forced Height blank for automatic height, or force a height tall enough for the longest layout, then check it on a phone.

Can AI tools like ChatGPT read Google reviews embedded on GoDaddy?

Not when they come from an HTML section. The code runs inside an iframe, loaded by the browser, so the review text isn't in your page's HTML. AI crawlers read that HTML without running JavaScript. Reviews typed into a text section are readable.

My GoDaddy site runs on WordPress. What should I use?

The Revys WordPress plugin. Revys pushes your reviews to WordPress every night and the plugin prints them as plain HTML in your pages, readable by Google and AI crawlers, with no JavaScript for visitors.

Will adding Google reviews to my GoDaddy site get me stars in search results?

No. Google doesn't show review stars for reviews a business displays about itself on its own website (self-serving reviews). Your stars come from your Google Business Profile.
