How to add Google reviews to your Wix website (and what Wix won't let you do)

Add Google reviews to Wix with an Embed HTML element. What works, why AI crawlers can't read it (it's an iframe), and the one server-side option: Velo.

Updated

You've got a Wix site and a stack of good Google reviews, and you want them on your homepage or booking page. Most tutorials skip the part that matters: on Wix, the platform decides what a review widget can and can't do, not the widget vendor.

Does Wix have a native way to show Google reviews?

No. Here's what Wix actually offers (checked October 19, 2026, in the Wix Help Center):

  • Embed HTML element (Add Elements, Embed Code, Popular Embeds, Embed HTML): paste a code snippet and Wix shows it where you place it. Wix is upfront about it: "The HTML and URL elements in our editor are iFrames." Your code must also use HTTPS.
  • Site-wide Custom Code (Settings, Development & integrations, Custom Code): adds a script to the head or body of your pages. It needs a published site with a connected domain, and it can't put a review block at a specific spot on a page.
  • Google Business Profile in your dashboard: lets you read and reply to Google reviews (Manage Reviews). It doesn't display them on your site.
  • Wix App Market review apps: several exist. They're still widgets loaded into your page with JavaScript, so run the page-source test below before assuming they do better.

Which method works on Wix?

A JavaScript snippet pasted into an Embed HTML element. In Revys, that's the "Quick display (JavaScript)" option.

Why "no" for AI crawlers: Vercel analyzed AI crawler traffic on its network and found that none of the major ones (GPTBot, ClaudeBot, PerplexityBot and others) executed JavaScript (December 2024). On Wix, your review text lives in an iframe loaded after the page, so it isn't in your HTML.

How do you add Google reviews to Wix, step by step?

About five minutes. Menu names below are from the classic Wix Editor. In Wix Studio, the equivalent embed element is also in the Add panel; the steps and the iframe limitation are the same.

  1. Connect your Google Business Profile

    Sign up for Revys and connect your profile through Google's official sign-in (you never share a password). Revys pulls your reviews and refreshes them every night.

  2. Set up the widget and copy the snippet

    In Revys, open "My businesses › your business › On my website": your widget is already there (a carousel), and "Change style" also offers grid, list, wall or badge. Click "Put on my website" and enter your site address: Revys recognizes Wix (if it doesn't, pick "Wix" under "Not right?") and shows the line to copy:

    <script src="https://revys.io/api/embed/YOUR_ID" async></script>

    YOUR_ID is filled in for you.

  3. Add an Embed HTML element

    In the Wix Editor: Add Elements (the + on the left), Embed Code, Popular Embeds, Embed HTML. Drop it where you want the reviews.

  4. Paste the code

    Click the element, then Enter Code. Keep the Code option selected, paste the line under "Add your code here" and click Apply.

  5. Fix the height, then the mobile view

    Drag the frame until the whole widget shows. Switch to the mobile view and do it again: on a narrow screen, reviews stack and need more height.

  6. Publish and check the live page

    Publish, then open the live page (not the editor preview). New reviews will appear on their own from now on. Back in Revys, click “Finish”: the “On my website” page shows “Installation declared: Wix doesn't let us verify it”.

Why is the widget cut off or surrounded by white space?

Because there are two iframes, one inside the other. The Revys script creates an iframe that resizes to fit its content, but it runs inside Wix's Embed HTML iframe, whose height you set by hand. Wix also warns that embedded content won't be responsive, even if the original is.

  • Leave a little extra room below the widget: a bit of white space beats a cut-off review.
  • Cap the number of reviews in the widget settings so the height is predictable.
  • On mobile, use the list or badge layout, which fit narrow frames best.
  • For the carousel, size the frame for your longest review, not the first one.

Is there any way to make reviews AI-readable on Wix?

Not by copy-pasting. No widget can escape the Embed HTML iframe. The one real option is Velo, Wix's development platform, with code you or a developer write.

Here's why it can work: Wix renders page code on its server first, then again in the browser. Its docs say the server "returns the HTML and all the necessary data to render the page" before the browser runs the same code. Text you fill in during onReady() can therefore land in the HTML crawlers get.

With the Revys API (Pro plan, API key):

  1. Store the key in Wix's Secrets Manager, never in page code.
  2. Write a backend web method that calls GET https://revys.io/api/v1/reviews?widget=YOUR_ID with Authorization: Bearer <key> and returns only the review fields (author, rating, text).
  3. In page code, fill a Text element or a Repeater with those reviews inside onReady().

A starting point to adapt and test on your own site:

// backend/revys.web.js
import { Permissions, webMethod } from "wix-web-module";
import { secrets } from "wix-secrets-backend.v2";
import { elevate } from "wix-auth";
import { fetch } from "wix-fetch";

const getSecretValue = elevate(secrets.getSecretValue);

export const getRevysReviews = webMethod(
  Permissions.Anyone,
  async () => {
    const key = await getSecretValue("REVYS_API_KEY");
    const res = await fetch("https://revys.io/api/v1/reviews?widget=YOUR_ID", {
      method: "get",
      headers: { Authorization: `Bearer ${key}` },
    });
    if (!res.ok) return [];
    const { data } = await res.json();
    return data.reviews.map((r) => ({
      author: r.authorName, rating: r.rating, text: r.text || "",
    }));
  },
  { cache: { ttl: 3600, tags: ["revys-reviews"] } },
);
// Page code
import { getRevysReviews } from "backend/revys.web";

const esc = (s) => s.replace(/[&<>"']/g, (c) => `&#${c.charCodeAt(0)};`);

$w.onReady(async () => {
  const reviews = await getRevysReviews();
  $w("#googleReviews").html = reviews
    .map((r) => `<p><strong>${esc(r.author)}</strong>: ${r.rating}/5</p><p>${esc(r.text)}</p>`)
    .join("");
});

How can you check what crawlers see?

On the published page, right-click and choose "View Page Source" (Ctrl+U, or Cmd+Option+U on a Mac), then search for a few words from one review.

  • With the JavaScript snippet, you won't find them, only an iframe where the reviews should be. That's expected on Wix.
  • With the Velo option, the words should be in the source. If they aren't, your code is only running in the browser.

Not for reviews alone. Whether ChatGPT or Perplexity mentions your business depends mostly on your Google Business Profile, other sites that talk about you, and the text of your own pages. More on that in local business visibility in AI search. The widget still does its main job: convincing visitors.

If having reviews in your HTML is a priority, builders that accept raw HTML in the page do better: Squarespace, Webflow and Shopify. For every method side by side, see how to embed Google reviews on your website, or compare tools in our best Google reviews widgets roundup.

FAQ

Does Wix have a built-in Google reviews widget?

No. Your Wix dashboard lets you read and reply to Google reviews (Google Business Profile, then Manage Reviews), but no native element displays them on your site. You need a third-party widget or your own code.

Can I add Google reviews to Wix for free?

Yes. Revys is free for one Google Business Profile: your widget comes ready to go, so copy its script and paste it into an Embed HTML element. The free plan shows a small "Free widget by Revys" credit under the reviews.

Do Google reviews on a Wix site help SEO?

Less than you'd hope. Wix's Embed HTML element is an iframe, so the review text isn't part of your page's HTML. Google may render it but credits it to the widget's URL, and AI crawlers that don't run JavaScript never see it. This applies to every review widget on Wix.

Why is my reviews widget cut off on Wix?

Wix sets a fixed height for the Embed HTML element and warns that embedded content won't be responsive. Drag the frame taller in the editor, then adjust it again in the mobile view, where reviews stack and need more height.

Can I paste the reviews as plain HTML instead of a script?

You can, but on Wix it changes nothing: HTML in an Embed HTML element is also shown inside an iframe. The script is the better choice because it updates itself.

Will showing Google reviews on Wix give me stars in search results?

No. Google doesn't show review stars for reviews a business displays about itself on its own site (self-serving reviews), on any platform. Your stars come from your Google Business Profile.
